Readyboost Is Worthless
Category: Technology |
1 Comment
ReadyBoost is a disk caching technology included in Windows Vista that uses flash memory to boost your system performance - well, it tries to. If your looking for a cheap way to boost performance in games, forget about it.
I’ve gotten a better performance increase from defragging my hard drive, and that’s a damn shame.

Laptop Time

There was a time when gaming laptops were expensive as f#(%. Those days are over.
If you haven’t been checking out the prices for the latest gaming laptops lately, you’re in for a big surprise. Laptop’s with gaming hardware are starting at $1100.00. And I’m not talking about integrated bull$#!^ either - I’m talkin GeForce 9600M GS video cards in these laptops. Don’t believe me? Check out the laptops being sold from Asus on Newegg.com, and be prepared to be blown away!
I can see a future when laptops completely replace desktops, and if gaming laptops get any cheaper than this, that future might come sooner than I think.

Scared Of 64bit Vista?
Category: Microsoft |
2 Comments
Windows Vista 32bit alone scares the shit out of people that are worried about software compatibility. Now, more and more vendors are selling computers running Vista 64 on them. Should PC gamers be concerned?
No. Hundreds of games work with Vista 64, and if you need proof, just look at Valve’s digital distribution client, Steam. Steam has hundreds of games available to purchase and download that work not only with Vista 32, but Vista 64 as well. And you can bet your ass that popular games like World Of Warcraft and The Sims 2 are Vista 64 ready as well. So then next time you see a good deal on a desktop or laptop that has 4 gigs of ram in it and Vista 64 installed, don’t be afraid. Go for it.

Want To Record Your Games?

You can tell someone about an awesome PC game, but they will never get the big picture unless you show them. That’s where Fraps comes in.
Fraps is a small, easy-to-use program that lets you record PC game footage right on your PC. You activate the program, launch a game, and hit the designated record key to start recording. The software also monitors your frames per second, and allows you to take screenshots.
I recommend recording at 30fps at half-size, so you don’t experience too much slowdown in the game.

WoW Vs. WAR

World Of Warcraft is a beast of a game. Since its release in 2004, it has sucked in over 10 million subscribers. Fans of big-budget MMOs like Lord Of The Rings Online: Shadows Of Angmar, and Age Of Conan: Hyborian Adventures have claimed that their game would be a WoW-killer, but no MMO has had the right stuff to compete with Blizzard’s masterpiece - until now.
On September 16th, Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning was released, and that game has enough features and gameplay to make any WoW player get on their knees and beg for sleep.

Where’s Battlefield 3 You Bastards?
Category: Games |

I’ve been playing EA’s Battlefield games since Battlefield 1942 was released in 2002. They are the most fun and intense multiplayer first person shooters I have ever played - even if they aren’t perfect.
After 1942, EA released Battlefield Vietnam in 2004, then Battlefield 2 in 2005, which was an instant hit. Battlefield 2142 came shortly after in 2006, and then the franchise stopped on the PC. Battlefield Bad Company was released on the 360 this year, and Battlefield Heroes, a 3rd person cartoon-style shooter is being released later this year (maybe).
So I’ll ask the question - where the hell is Battlefield 3? There have been multiple rumors about leaked info for BF3, but none of them have been confirmed. I have spent more hours playing these games than I want to admit. Just announce it already, you wankers!

Size ‘Em Up Quick

I don’t like Photoshop programs. They take too long to load up, and they run like a guinea pig with 2 legs. The problem is that I re-size images a lot.
The solution is Irfanview. Its a free image viewer that runs fast, and re-sizes images in a snap. Just drag that bastard-sized screenshot of your favorite game into the window, and hit CTRL+R. Resize the image, and save.

Direct2Drive

Direct2drive.com is a site that allows you to download PC games and other stuff directly to your hard drive. You can pay for the games with a credit card or Paypal, and your purchase stays in the system forever, so you can download the game again just in case your computer takes a giant shit on you, and you have to reformat.
I just bought Spore off of Direct2Drive, and it is downloading now - at like 150KB a second. That means I’ll be able to play it right before my 87th birthday. Awesome.
